Scanner-less

Sun Nov 22, 2009, 3:44 AM
My scanner, a free-be from a friend who moved away, broke down on me for now reason a couple weeks ago. I freed up its space on my floor and put it in the recycle, but now I have no way of capturing my artwork - other than my camera. I'll get another scanner sometime, probably a combo machine with a color printer. Until then, I'll just be taking photos of my work. And I'm not a great photographer. :(

Illustrated fables

Sun Aug 9, 2009, 4:55 AM
I finally found a use for the photo album I bought a while ago, handmade from Nepalese paper with transparent inserts. Having found a site with old Swiss fables and myths from around the country, I've taken to translating the stories and writing them down in the photo album. Per fable there's a title page with a floral "Bauernmalerei"-type illustration, and then the story on the left page with a matching illustration on the right. It's not turning out half bad.
I draw the illustrations on normal white printer paper, ink their outlines, color them in pencil and then cut them out with my small papercut scissors and glue them down. I'm pretty happy with the project so far as it's a good exercise in various areas: sketch, coloring, calligraphy, planning, placement and neat cutting. Which means something as I'm a rather impatient and don't work as neatly as I should.
I'm guessing the book has got room for six or seven fables. I'm only going to do legends concerning animals; coming up are ones about a kitty, a white goat, three horses and St. Meinrad's two crows. If there's room, I'll a story about a Swedish steed.
(Yes, I like drawing horses and need more practice.)
I probably won't do much else until that project is finished.
